Beginning in July 2000 through
June 2004, funding for Florida's Bridges to Practice was provided through
the Florida Department of Education, Division of Workforce Development,
in its ongoing support for programs and services to persons with learning
disabilities. One of the goals of that project was to impact our state's
literacy programs' and practitioners' views regarding the provision of
services for people with learning disabilities. Targeted training focused
on legal rights, program responsibilities, resources and supports, assistive
technology, and innovative teaching tools and techniques. We knew that
most literacy programs and practitioners would "welcome and seize
the opportunity to improve services for learners, provided they could
identify the necessary resources and tools. Florida's Bridges to Practice
project served as a call to action to adult literacy programs to initiate
reform so that adults with learning disabilities will experience greater
success in meeting their educational and life goals. Florida's Bridges to Practice
project is no longer funded or providing free training. However, the unlimited
resources that can be found on this website are still available to anyone
that is interested. |
